A CONCERT will be given by AMA vocal trio in St. Mary's Church, Tenby, on May 13.
The trio, comprising three friends, started singing together in 2010 under the direction of composer and conductor Andrew Cusworth. Since then, it has given numerous performances, including a number of world premières of new music.
Whereas most commonly-sung choral music is written for four or more voices, the trio specialises in the little known repertoire of music for three or fewer voices, meaning that their performances give an opportunity to experience an unusual repertoire.
The programme for the forthcoming concert is made up of early sacred music, ranging from the monodic chant of Wipo of Burgundy to the contrapuntal compositions of William Byrd and his contemporaries, including parts of the 'Mass for three voices.' Works by the three most significant continental polyphonists of the Renaissance - Palestrina, Vittoria, and Lassus - will also be sung.
The concert in Tenby marks the mid-point of a tour that the trio is undertaking, with the remaining venues including St. Mary's Priory in Abergavenny, and Brecon Cathedral. The concert will begin at 8 pm, with a charge of £5 on the door (under 18s free).
Further details about the tour and the trio are available on the trio's website (http://www.amatrio.com">www.amatrio.com) and social media pages.
