THE Ruscombe-Kings from Boscastle were unaffected by the mud, rain and wet weather, raking in the rosettes for their prizewinning Jacob flock.
Deborah Ruscombe-King said they were ‘really pleased’ to have received three firsts, reserve champion and a cup for the group prize at this year’s show, and that the weather has not affected their performance this year.
She said: “We’re very pleased with that, and the fact that we have to drive just three miles to get here just makes it all really worth while.”
The Ruscombe-Kings have been attending Camelford Show most years, and have this year also attended the likes of Royal Cornwall Show, Launceston Show, and were due to attend North Devon Show, but it was called off.
The team this year included Deborah, her son Justin and his son, Freddy, who is currently home on leave from the Army.
Justin, said: “It’s a lovely show; it’s full of friends, family and it’s just a really local show — it’s wonderful. But it’s been so, so soggy, it’s not true. Camelford Show is one of those shows, it’s a proper old fashioned agriculture show — it’s jolly good.”
This year, Deborah and Justin showed three of their prizewinning Jacobs — Petronella, Riot and Xenophon, ‘the big boy’, who had a pen to himself.
The Ruscombe-Kings also own West Country Trout, who, over the years, have been able to develop a whole size range of trout, from one ounce to ten pounds, and also breed their own strain of rainbow trout, known as ‘the Boscastle Blues’.
The family has been breeding their prizewinning Jacobs for approximately 30 years, and also have a selection of pedigree lambs and shearling ewes and rams for sale. Their sheep have also been featured in many film and TV shows, and can be used on film sets with a qualified handler.
