WETHERSPOON 'groupies' could descend on Teignmouth for the opening of the pub giant's latest branch.

Apparently, the company has a loyal following across the country and many travel hundreds of miles to new openings.

'They are real enthusiasts and love to tick off as many of our pubs as they can,' said the manager of the Jolie Brise, Chris Martin.

'The fans follow our latest news on social media and I am sure many will come to Teignmouth – even from the Midlands – just to see the new pub.

'Their visits could be spread over several months, and several might stay in the town.'

Mr Martin, 42, is coming from the Taunton Wetherspoon, the Perkin Warbeck, and has been with the company 15 years, managing pubs across Devon and Cornwall.

He also allayed fears that the Jolie Brise might be a threat to other pubs in the resort.

'We find that our pubs attract people from outside the area, who might not normally come to the town.

'Once here they will be right in the town centre, and will be able to stroll to other businesses within a short distance.'
