The Samba Band players of Class 3 from Delabole Primary School are pictured above, wearing the new t-shirts which were supplied following a generous donation of £300 from Mr and Mrs George and Levi Hamilton of Delabole Slate Quarry. The children have received excellent tuition under the guidance of Terry Rodd from the Cornwall Music Service through the Wider Opportunities Fund, provided by central government to encourage youngsters to take up musical instruments. Initially, the school chose to learn to samba through the enthusiasm of the late Ms Rebecca Lock, the Special Needs Co-ordinator, who sadly died in a car accident last year. Following her loss, the school was able to use the Wider Opportunities Fund to supply the school with an entire set of instruments and tuition for a year. The band rehearse every Wednesday and have already been booked as a warm up act to Johnny Cowling's Elvis, the Delabole Carnival and to open the summer fayre at Upton Cross School later this month.
