PAINTINGS and sketches by an artist formerly of Holsworthy, who, last year, spent five weeks embedded with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan, are currently on display until February 8 at an exhibition called 'Shoulder to Shoulder' in Plymouth's Central Library.
The artist, Andrew Miller, now lives at Ugborough near Ivybridge, but was brought up in Holsworthy and attended Holsworthy primary and secondary schools then studied at North Devon College and Eastbourne College of Art.
Much of Andrew's work is inspired by the landscape and coastal scenery of the South Devon but, having been commissioned in 2010 to document 40 Commandos tour of Sangin, he was appointed official war artist early in 2011 and deployed with 3 Commando Brigade to Afghanistan.
While he was there he completed dozens of sketches then created a series of paintings from his drawings after returning home.
