FRIENDS of Ashburton Library will update everyone on the library's move, and thank all those who have helped them, in a public meeting next Wednesday, April 22.

Michael Cranmer, one of the friends, said: 'We've had almost overwhelming support for our plan to relocate the library to the post office's old sorting office, and this is an important moment in the life of the town.

'It's been almost a year since we called an initial public meeting to decide what could be done to save our library, and now we have planning permission for the work to go ahead. Initial building will start on May 25 and should be completed by the end of June.'

The public meeting will be in Ashburton Town Hall at 7.30pm.

Mr Cranmer added: 'There will be a display of the plans, an artist's impression of the new library, plans of the new Post Office, and the new logo for Ashburton Post Office and Community Library.

'Ian Glendinning will also be presenting a cheque to the project for £5,000 to show his continued support. He and his company have gone above and beyond to support the project, including picking up the tab for some of the building works.'
