A Tenby councillor has challenged the local authority to deal with hazardous A-board signs that continuously block pavements and streets across the town, in the same manner that a neighbouring council does.

Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Will Rossiter brought to the attention of his fellow members a story he had read on how Carmarthenshire County Council's environmental and public protection team were to fine businesses found to be in breach of a policy relating to A-boards obstructing pavements and the highways, after a visually impaired woman was injured as a result of her white cane becoming lodged under an advertising sign.

"It comes down to the clout and ability to do the job, and I'd suggest that Pembrokeshire County Council's street care manager, Marc Owen, comes down again to Tenby and does something about it," said Clr. Rossiter.

His colleague, Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain, agreed and said it was getting out of hand.

"People go on about it being hard for businesses in the town and them needing the A-boards, but if no-one was allowed them, then it would be a level playing field," she said.
