The Pembroke Company of Archers were again successful at the 2015 Dyfed Outdoor Archery Championships, hosted in July by The Castle Archers, Newcastle Emlyn.
Despite starting the day shooting in torrential rain, (followed a little later by thunder and lightning), seven of the eight club members who entered, won trophies and medals in three of the four tournament bow styles in the Lady and Gents WA 1440 rounds (better known as the FITA Olympic rounds), as the weather cleared.
Peter Morgan (a previous winner of the Buckingham Trophy) retained the Gents Recurve Trophy from 2014; Raymond Harris and Phillip Painting won the Silver and Bronze Medals in this category. Dave Cochlin was awarded the Buckingham Trophy, presented to the unplaced lady or gent archer achieving the highest score at the longest distances.
Stuart Edwards won the Gents Longbow Trophy, his sixth success in this championship in recent years.
Chris Brown won the Gents Barebow trophy for the second time, matching previous successes in winning the Gents Recurve Trophy at these championships.
Sue Brown added the Ladies Barebow Silver Medal to previous Dyfed and Welsh medals and awards.
Ray and Dave have held both the Recurve and Buckingham Trophies in previous years; Phill, who only completed his introductory beginners course some 11 months ago, added this medal to that which he won in the Dyfed Indoor Championships earlier this year.
Congratulations to these club members, who continue with the winning tradition of the club, are well deserved; mention should also be made of club Recurve lady archer, Clare Harris, unable to shoot this year due to prior commitments, who holds the only Recurve Grand Master Bowman awarded to a Welsh archer for the 2014 season and only one of 11 such awards made in the UK for that season.
The club is offering the 'Intro to Archery' beginners course over the summer - check out their website http://www.pcoa.org.uk">www.pcoa.org.uk or e-mail "[email protected]">[email protected]" for contact details.
