Over the past six years, director of golf, Oliver Duckett, has developed a schools programme which has seen over 3,000 children aged from six to 11 introduced to the game. This year is no different and with over 15 schools now registered for the programme, 2015 is sure to be a huge moving year for the club and golf participation in the local community.

New for this year, schools have been invited to Trefloyne Manor to visit the club, have a tour of the facilties, engage in a three-hour golf clinic and finish off by having their lunch on the terrace.

Already Narberth and Saundersfoot (seen below) have taken advantage, with over 100 children participating last week.

Our close relationship with Sport Pembrokeshire, GDW and GUW has seen every child offered a 3 x free lesson voucher to be taken any time over the summer months.

Ollie and his team look forward to delivering to the rest of the registered schools over the coming weeks and we would like to thank Alan Jones from Sport Pembrokeshire and Wyndham Williams (Greenhill School) for their continued support.

36 JUNIOR MEMBERS ATTEND SPRING PRESENTATION

A bumper turnout at the recent academy presentation made for a fantastic day last Saturday.

Our older academy members played a nine-hole Yellow and Blue Tee Stableford which was won by Finnan Arthur (pictured), and William Brace (pictured), respectively.

Our younger members were treated to a fun coaching session with Ollie which was won by Connie Lawrence and Iwan Gottwaltz (pictured).

Following play, the juniors were treated to lunch by the Junior Section, followed by the presentation of prizes and certificates for academy levels passed.

Ollie was on hand to thank Sue Ensor and all parents for their continued support, especially the mums and dads who have been on hand to take juniors onto the course and pass on advice when playing.

Tom Beynon and staff were also thanked for the wonderful food and use of the restaurant for the presentation.

Ollie reminded everyone that academy coaching returns to normal this weekend, although times and groups have changed slightly. Please call the Pro-Shop on 01834 845639 for more information.

STRONG START FOR DYFED LEAGUE TEAM

Adam Thorne and his team have made a fantastic start to life in division one with two wins from two and six bonus points putting them in a strong position in the league, holding second place with a game in hand over multiple winners Carmarthen.

Last Sunday, Glynhir Golf Club were the visitors to the Manor. Adam again went for strength in depth, with the return of the Cope brothers and club champion Ben Price.

With the sun shining and a strong westerly blowing, the team made the most of the home advantage and secured a strong 7-2 victory. Results were as follows:

Ben Price and Paddy Mckeown won 2 and 1; Glenn Hunter and Simon Arthur lost 2 down; Nick and Richard Cope won 4 and 2; Adam Thomas and Nick Garrod won 4 and 3; Ellis Morgan and George Taylor won 6 and 4; Adam Thorne and Harrison Duckett won 4 and 2; James Couzens and James Criddle won 3 and 2; Matthew Mcann and Pat Casement lost 2 and 1; Robin Lloyd and Meurig won 3 and 2.

Next up for the lads will be a top-of-the-table clash at home to Carmarthen on Sunday, May 31. Everyone at Trefloyne Manor would like to congratulate the team on their achievements and wish them luck for their challenge of becoming county champions.

SUCCESS FOR SENIORS

Without wanting to put the kiss of death on it, the weather has been very kind to us seniors on the Thursdays of the last two months; let's hope it continues in the same vein for the rest of the summer. The latest team to visit Trefloyne Manor were Glyn Abbey.

Leading the way as usual were the respective captains, Jack Zeraschi, partnered by Bob Forrest for Trefloyne, Meic Bowen partnered by Myrddin Rees for Glyn Abbey. This was a closely fought game, with the Trefloyne pair taking an early lead, but Glyn Abbey bringing the game level after nine. Trefloyne then took a one hole lead on the 15th and held on with halves on the next three holes to win one up.

Playing second were Wayne Connett with John Drury, against Dave Jermin and Nigel Thomas. Wayne and John gelled well in this game, running out 6 and 5 winners.

Next off were Glyn Latcham, partnered by John James, against Bobby Sandow and Tony Hancock. This was another close game with nothing in it. Trefloyne had a narrow one hole lead at the15th, but could not hold on, Glyn Abbey winning the one hole they needed for a hard fought half.

The regular pairing of Pat Casement and Keith Warmington were next to play, against Mike Wilkins and Brian John. Pat and Keith proved too strong for Mike and Brian, leading by five after the first nine. A win on the13th was enough to win the game 6 and 5.

Another regular pairing, Keith Hubbard and Graham Willcocks, played against Dai Lavender and Ken Chislett. This wasn't as easy as the previous game, with Keith and Graham having to fight their way to a two up victory.

Graham Harrison and Steve Jones were paired together to play Jeff Rees and Gerald Davies. Graham and Steve took a four-hole lead after the first nine holes. Successive wins on the next three holes saw them home with a 7 and 6 win.

Bob Burks and Trevor Lewis were next to play against Peter Saunders and Mal Hughes. Bob and Trevor played well together, going on to win 5 and 4.

Derek Jones was joined by Roger Woodward to play against Dave Turnock and Stuart Leeke. Both pairs gave it their all in this game, but neither could strike the decisive blow, the game ending all-square.

Next to play were Dennis Holloway, with John Perrott, versus Eddie Alderton and Brian Miles. Starting on the back nine, wins for the home pair on the 10th and 15th sandwiched a run of three wins for Glyn Abbey, the away pair one up after nine. Another three wins in a row put the away pair four up with four to play. A win on the sixth gave some hope, but a loss on the next ended matters in favour of Glyn Abbey, 3 and 2.

The final game concerned Mike Allen, partnered by John Richards, against Roy Griffiths and Ken Bull. The Glyn Abbey pair held a narrow one hole lead for most of the front nine, but lost both the eighth and ninth to find themselves one down at the turn. Although Glyn Abbey won the 12th to level the game, the Trefloyne pair turned on the style to win the next four holes to run out 4 and 2 winners.

Final result 8-2 in favour of Trefloyne.
