THE extra preliminary round of the FA Cup is the big focus in this week’s Cornish Times.
On Saturday four CT clubs were in action with Millbrook, Torpoint Athletic, Saltash United and Liskeard Athletic all involved, although the latter two were knocked out.
Millbrook and Torpoint drew 1-1 on Saturday before Torpoint edged the replay 1-0 last night to set up a tie with fellow Western League side Mousehole next Saturday.
The South West Peninsula League is also underway.
Last Tuesday night (August 2), Liskeard Athletic drew 2-2 with Callington Town in the opening game of the SWPL campaign, while on Saturday Dobwalls were in action at St Austell which saw visiting goalkeeper Toby Chapman complain of racial abuse which is now being investigated by the FA, and Bodmin Town welcomed Sticker to Priory Park.
There’s also Dave Potham’s round-up on the start of the St Piran League East season as well as news on Plymouth Argyle Under 18s and Liskeard Athletic Ladies.
As always there’s all the fixtures, results and tables from the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League with reports from Callington who saw their first team slip further into trouble in their bid for survival in the ECB Cornwall Premier League while Saltash St Stephens remain top of Division Four East after victory over Menheniot-Looe Seconds.
There’s also the latest from the water as Looe Sailing Club prepare to head to Wales while Looe Sea Swimmers competed down at St Michael’s Mount.
On the greens we hear from China Fleet and St Mellion golf clubs while Looe and District Pool League hold their first presentation night since the COVID-19 pandemic.
