TEN members of Launceston Road Runners completed the 2024 London Marathon on Sunday, April 21.
After weeks of training in probably some of the wettest and windiest conditions experienced they were very relieved when the day of the race dawned clear and bright and not too warm, perfect!
With almost half a million people entering the ballot for one of 50,000 places, it was amazing that both Emma and Peter James got places. Jon Kappes was also fortunate enough to gain a ballot place.
Lavinia Marshall had qualified on a good for age place after her Cornish Marathon last year and after this year’s performance has once again qualified for a good for age place.
Congratulations Vin! Kevin Marshall was drawn from the ballot to take the club place, while Sarah Worth also qualified on a good for age place.
Paul Heywood ran for charity, raising money for Lifton Community Centre, Ed Horn also ran, for Children with Cancer UK, and Mike Charlwood ran to help Make A Wish.
Jeanette Johnson was once again on the Championship start line, and after achieving a PB has again gained a championship place for next year. Congratulations Jeanette!
In addition to the official marathon, Katie and Chris Fowler took on a virtual London, running the route in reverse – at midnight!
Another member of the club, Peter McAughey, ran 26.2 miles on the Granite Way - just for fun!
Congratulations to everyone.
The times were as follows: Jeanette Johnson – 3:06:05 (PB); Ed Horn – 3:13:42; Kevin Marshall – 3:37:29; Jon Kappes – 3:39:59; Sarah Worth – 3:54:39; Peter James – 4:02:48 (PB); Mike Charlwood – 4:37:40; Emma James – 4:40:31; Paul Heywood – 5:04:05; Lavinia Marshall – 5:21:29.
