Ysgol Dyffryn Taf School Whitland have been trying to get to the finals of the British Schools Karting championship for the last six years and this year they managed to find a team with the skill and ambition to finish in a fantastic eighth place overall in the UK at Whilton Mill kart track in Northampton.
Together they managed to secure a place in the final last month by finishing in the top three teams at Thruxton kart track Hampshire and by doing so be the only Welsh team to get into the final.
With some hard work practicing in wet and dry conditions at Carew karting which was invaluable, the team went to the final in great shape.
'Team Dyffryn Taf' made up of regular team member Owen Griffiths (Year 11 from Narberth), Rhys Jackson (Year 11 from Lampeter Velfrey) and Ewan Howells (Year 10 from Whitland) managed to secure three top five positions in the races they had, including a win and a second place against a quality field of drivers, which netted them a top eight position overall.
Dyffryn Taf headteacher Mr. Robert Newsome OBE said: "It was a pleasure to watch these boys come together as a group and support each other through the highs and lows of the journey, this is what we as a school are trying to achieve so that children enjoy school for all it offers."
The team would like to thank the support they had from the following, without them it would have been a much harder journey to complete:
Ian Gravell - Gravells Kia Narberth; Carew Karting; West Wales Karting center; Griffiths Heating Services; CLH trailers; D and K Plant hire; Harden Plant Hire; Blue Mountain Security.
