AFTER several days of cold but dry weather, it looks set for a full programme of action in SWPL Premier West tomorrow afternoon.
Amongst the games is a big North Cornwall derby at Pennygillam as Launceston welcome Camelford (2.15pm).
Both sides are in good form with the Clarets winning their last three games, while the Camels have been victorious in five of their last seven league games.
Launceston have the likes of James Close, Jaden Wood and Alfie Fothergill back in contention as Neil Price may have the rare luxury of having to leave out a couple of players from a 16-man squad, and having scored 12 goals in their last three games, are starting to find their shooting boots.
That’s also not been a problem for Camelford who beat Bude Town 3-0 on December 29 and put five past Truro City Reserves in their outing before that.
Camelford’s task isn’t helped by the continuing absence of skipper Charlie Hambly in midfield due to suspension, while Tom Crowe serves a ban having been red carded against Bude. Camels boss Reg Hambly will hope top-scorer Brooklyn Wilkins is available again having missed the last match.
The first game between the two ended in a 3-1 victory for Camelford.
Bude Town are the latest side tasked with stopping the Liskeard Athletic juggernaut when the Blues head to Broadclose Park.
Liskeard have dropped just two points all season from 19 games and are the best performing Step Six side in the country with a whopping 91 goals to boot.
They have also conceded just 15, showing the task the Seasiders face.
That said, Bude’s home form has been generally good, and their pitch doesn’t make for a free-flowing game like Liskeard would want.
Mid-table Callington Town haven’t played since their narrow 3-2 defeat to Launceston on Boxing Day, and Dean Southcott’s men have a tough task when they visit Newquay.
The Peppermints were in action on Wednesday night as they edged past Bodmin Town 5-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
Newquay are also sitting pretty in the league with 35 points from 17 games, and are level on points with third-placed Wendron United who have played a game more.
Cally are rolling along steadily in ninth, a good effort in Southcott’s first season in charge.
Holsworthy have no fixture scheduled before next Saturday’s home clash with St Dennis, and with the reserves also having the weekend off, have decided to play a ‘friendly’ against each other at Upcott Field to keep the legs sharp. Entry is free for the game which starts at 2.30pm.
Elsewhere in the division, strugglers Bodmin Town and Sticker have winnable home games.
Bodmin, who have dropped to second bottom following last weekend’s defeat at Sticker, welcome 14th placed Mullion to Priory Park, while Sticker, who are two points clear but have just eight games remaining, welcome mid-table Penzance who aren’t the best on their travels.
Bottom side St Dennis, who are four points behind Bodmin but have two games in-hand, and six on Sticker, have strengthened significantly in recent weeks, have an awkward clash at Dobwalls who are sixth.
St Austell know they must be almost perfect to have any chance of catching Liskeard in the race for the title.
They have a tough task when they visit third-placed Wendron, but the Dron have been struggling of late.
If Wendron drop points, Wadebridge Town will expect to climb to third when they welcome Truro City Reserves to Bodieve Park.
2.15pm kick-offs: Bodmin Town v Mullion, Launceston v Camelford, Newquay v Callington Town, Wadebridge Town v Truro City Res, Wendron United v St Austell.
3pm kick-offs: Bude Town v Liskeard Athletic, Dobwalls v St Dennis, Sticker v Penzance.
