Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East latest round-up
WERRINGTON Seconds’ title hopes are fading after leaders St Austell enjoyed a 40-point weekend.
While Werrington did their job with a four-wicket victory over Lanhydrock, the Saints won at Holsworthy before being given a concession by Ladock on Monday.
It means Werrington are 22 points behind, and St Austell could seal the title this Saturday when they welcome St Blazey.
The Lanhydrock game was set up by the bowlers as the Bodmin club were dismissed for just 155.
Opening bowlers Nick Oldaker (2-12) and Ian Searle (2-30) set the tone, and although there was late order resistance from Christian James (34) and Si-Am Juntakereket (42), Tyler May (3-26) and Jason Seldon (2-24) shared five wickets.
Werrington found themselves in early bother against James (2-21), but after Simon Bishop (36) and Zander Zambuni (27) settled things down, useful contributions from Dan Warring (16) and Rob Dymond (15), Darren Webber (18no) and Seldon (13no) got them home.
St Minver are third following a 156-run victory over Ladock. Antony Ash set the tone with a 68-ball 87, and after some bits and pieces, both Archie Edwards and Reece Thompson made 50 not out to help them reach 293-5.
Ladock got off to a fast start through the dangerous Alex Ridd (34), but once he went the innings never got going as they were dismissed for 137.
Alek Gill claimed 4-37, while fellow off-spinners Rob Hawken (2-19) and Dean Jeffery (2-13) chipped in.
Callington dropped to fourth after their home clash with St Blazey was postponed due to the weather, while Bude are now fifth after a nine-wicket success over struggling Menheniot-Looe.
A series of drops cost the Seasiders an extra point and an even easier chase, but a score of 194-8 was well below par.
A second wicket stand of 120 between Pete Nance (52) and Lachie Osborne (63) laid the foundation, but once they were separated, Bude fought back.
Aussie Brett Hunter took 3-36, while James Sharman’s two overs at the end saw the remarkable figures of 4-4.
Sharman went early in the chase, before Wayne Adams and Warren Rumble saw the North Cornwall side home. While Adams patiently accumulated 65 not out from 112 balls, Rumble got on with it, making 93 from 111 with nine fours and four sixes.
Holsworthy welcomed St Austell and went down by five wickets in a low scoring contest.
The pace of Jack Carter proved too hot to handle as he took out key men Jack Greening and Herschelle Poggenpoel for just a single between them.
Skipper Ryan Walter joined Jack May to rebuild the innings, but once Walter went for 15 to Ben Sleeman (2-13), they collapsed in a hurry to just 89 all out against the spin of James Carter (3-11) and his son, Ben (3-7).
Holsworthy rolled the dice with the ball and opened the bowling with Greening (2-27) and Poggenpoel (2-11), and the seam and spin combination worked a treat as they were reduced to 8-4 and then 20-5.
But James Carter showed his class with 39 not out, and found a perfect foil in skipper Tom Rosevear (27no).
South Petherwin secured a fourth win of the season with a 156-run thrashing of second bottom Tintagel.
Richard Watson top-scored with 70 and there were fine contributions from Billy Martin (24), Jacob Masters (25) and latterly Adrian Clements (37no).
Akobe Earle (3-53) and Rocco Reynolds (2-34) shared five wickets.
The visitors’ response lasted just 22.3 overs as they were dismissed for 78, the best being Tom Parsons’ 18.
Adam Creasey took 5-29 before Masters (3-10) and Owen Barnes (2-20) finished things off.
