Bude 17
BUDE were relegated from the Western Counties league in their first season since promotion after a 33-17 final day defeat to Devonport last Saturday.
Adam Black’s side needed Crediton to lose at home to already relegated Wellington and win at a Devonport side who for long spells of the season looked on course for automatic promotion to South West One.
However, a comfortable defeat in Plymouth meant that they’ll return to the Devon and Cornwall League after going up as champions last term.
Just one win on the road all season has been Bude’s undoing with their Bencoolen Meadow base a stronghold.
At Devonport, Bude took the lead when when?Simon Jefferies went over after a scrum. Dan Pearce converted the try and then a penalty to put them 10-0 up.
After that, the home side proved far too strong as they ran in five tries.
Gareth Mitchell did score a consolation try but in the end Bude went down.
