Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East round-up – Saturday, June 29
RYAN Pooley struck a remarkable 217 not out as Werrington Seconds dismantled bottom side Tintagel at Ladycross.
Playing against the side he left over the winter, the all-rounder hammered 26 fours and 11 sixes from number three as Jason Seldon’s men racked up a huge 381-8.
Jordan Blanchard took three wickets, albeit for 80 off eight overs.
To Tintagel’s credit their batsmen worked hard and reached maximum batting points in their 209-8.
Gyles Reynolds made 52 not out from number seven while there were twenties from Blanchard (27), Akobe Earle (25), Tom Parsons (21), Matt Jolliffe (21) and Jordan Burnard (20).
Jason Seldon (2-21) was the pick of the home attack against his former club, while Ian Searle (2-34) and Mark Hodgson (2-49) had a brace.
Bude remain second after a comfortable seven-wicket victory over St Blazey at Crooklets.
The visitors got off to a decent start with opener Rory Dixon (55) and dangerman Matt Bennetts taking them to 104-2 before the spin of Andrew De Rosa (2-30) separated them.
Bennetts soon went for 25, and although Dan Kendall and Josh Carne added 39, it was slow.
Wickets fell towards the end with off-spinner Matt Williams claiming 4-29 as Blazey were all out for 179.
The chase was a routine affair.
James Sharman continued his fine form with a boundary-filled 52 from just 56 deliveries, and that set the platform for captain Warren Rumble to add an unbeaten 74 as they were over the line in the 40th over.
Nearby at Holsworthy, the hosts also eased to a comfortable victory on the chase, by six wickets against Menheniot-Looe.
Rob Mitchell took 4-54 and Herschelle Poggenpoel a miserly 3-16 from eight overs as Menheniot were dismissed for 200.
Jack Greening (31) and stand-in opener Chris Pomeroy (21) laid the foundations for Poggenpoel (50no) and Sam Stacey (55) to take them within 38.
Skipper Ryan Walter (12no) then joined Poggenpoel to administer the last rights.
St Minver had a tough weekend as they lost at home to struggling Lanhydrock and then St Blazey.
Saturday saw them run into a superb knock by Lanhydrock captain Ben Attfield.
He made an unbeaten 130 from 110 balls as the Bodmin-based club racked up an imposing 282-6 as only Josh Sanders (1-35) and Rob Hawken (2-47) enjoyed much success.
St Minver’s top seven all reached double figures in a respectable reply of 234-9.
Alek Gill top-scored with 51 while there were useful contributions from Antony Ash (49), Reece Thompson (38) and Kelvin Lockwood (26).
Sunday saw their batting let them down.
They slipped to 88-6 despite runs from Alek Gill (31) and Antony Ash (22), but they did rally to post 180-7 thanks to Dean Jeffery’s unbeaten 45 and 31 from Rob Hawken.
St Blazey eased home with six wickets and 19 balls remaining.
Rory Dixon made 73 before Paul Carne and Dan Kendall made 26 not out respectively.
Reece Thompson took 2-21 from nine hostile overs.
Callington Seconds won by four wickets at a battling South Petherwin side missing several regulars.
The hosts chose to bat and made a respectable 218-3.
Opener Mike Bolt batted through for his 65 while Andrew Brenton (43 retired hurt), Connor Warne (27no) and Billy Martin (21) chipped in.
Spinners Rhys Hodge (1-28) and Richard Brown (0-25) kept things tight.
Cally’s explosive batting line-up had no trouble despite a flurry of late wickets.
Ben Allsop made 79 with Nick Parker and the returning Ollie Allsop making 43 and 41 respectively as Connor Warne took three-fer.
The other game saw St Austell Seconds beat visiting Ladock by four runs having posted 246-9.
