Cornwall Cricket League Division Five and Six East round-up – Saturday, July 13
HOLSWORTHY Seconds kept up their promotion push from Division Five East as they earned a six-wicket success at their St Stephen counterparts on Saturday.
A fine bowling display saw the Clay Country club dismissed for just 137 despite 54 from opener Shaun Hicks.
Adam Lovejoy (2-28) did the early damage before Tai Wonnacott cleaned up the tail and Hicks on the way to figures of 4-6 from just 3.3 overs.
The chase was led by Holsworthy skipper Lyndon Piper who made exactly 50.
Double figure scores from youngsters Rory Piper (17), Gavin Cockwill (14) and Adam Lovejoy (16) got them over the line.
Bude Seconds are 16 points adrift of Wadebridge Thirds in second after a ten-wicket thrashing of their South Petherwin counterparts.
An understrength home side could only muster 83 all out with only Caleb Forsyth (26) and James Cawsey (22) contributing.
Opening bowlers Peter Ellis (2-29) and Charlie Gliddon (3-32) shared five wickets before Joe Gliddon (4-14 off 5) polished off the tail.
Openers Charlie Gliddon (39no) and Jack Miles (31no) knocked off the runs in just 13.1 overs.
Mid-table Werrington Fourths had a tough weekend as they lost twice away from home.
On Saturday they headed to Pencarrow to take on Wadebridge and were soundly beaten by 76 runs.
Opener Daific Nadarajan was key for the hosts with 84 as they made 174-6 despite two wickets apiece for Tyler Jasper (2-26), Joe Gent (2-40) and Emma Horrell (2-46).
Wadebridge’s promising paceman Ollie Allen and Lucas Stewart reduced the Tron to 19-4, and although skipper Keith Moore (25) and Tyler Westlake (13) added 41, the rest struggled as they were bundled out for 98.
Sunday saw them head to Bugle.
The hosts made 244-5, a total made possible by a rapid 64 not out from Ben Shepherd towards the end.
Ben Sonley took 2-50 while Adam Paynter’s ten overs cost just 38.
Werrington were bundled out for 125 in reply.
Matt Chatfield made 44 from number three, but of the rest, only Thomas Petherick (18) and Adam Paynter (16) reached double figures.
Gunnislake were beaten by 48 runs at Gorran.
Spinner James Boundy (3-19) and Joe Organ (2-15) took 5-34 from 20 overs between them in the middle, but a late charge saw the hosts reached 186-9.
Gunni’s response never got going as they finished on 138-7, club legend Andy Astley making 41 on a rare appearance.
In Division Six East, second-placed Luckett Seconds thrashed their Tideford counterparts by 167 runs at Chapel Field.
Martin Budge made 82 in their total of 288-3, but it was loanee Dave Uglow that was the star of the show with 121 not out.
Dave’s son Sam then took 3-25 with the ball as Tideford were dismissed for 121.
Martin Budge had the fine figures of 1-4 from eight overs, seven of which were maidens, while Alistair Skeet (2-26) and Steve Brown (2-10) enjoyed themselves in the middle.
Tintagel Seconds remain right on their heels after a 133-run thrashing of Launceston Thirds at Butts Field.
Opener Simon Harrison top scored with 81 and Richard Pethick and Chris Lovegrove made 27 apiece before Joe Parsons’ unbeaten 50 got them up to an imposing 257-4.
Ryan Vanstone was the pick of the visiting attack with 1-36 from his ten overs.
Launceston’s reply never got started as opening bowler Rocco Reynolds claimed 5-28 from his ten overs.
Ben Jarram (2-25) chipped in before Adam Wright’s 3-4 from four overs towards the end.
Sixty-three extras helped give Launceston three batting points as well as 23 apiece from Andrew Baker and Paddy Webber.
