North Devon League round-up - Saturday, May 4
MORWENSTOW’S promotion hopes were given a boost on Saturday as they thrashed Kingsley Park 6-0 away from home, while other results went in their favour.
While the Greens were getting the business done at Victoria Park, third-placed High Bickington were being held to a goalless draw by Kingsley Wizards at Torridgeside.
On the pitch Morwenstow raced into a 3-0 lead through David Hales, Corrick Davies and Richie Armstrong, although skipper Will Bryant had to be alert to clear a home shot off the line soon after.
A fourth arrived before the break through Armstrong after a superb ball from Jake Gilbert before Davies’ second made it five soon after the restart.
Norman Foster rounded off the scoring after a clever knockdown from Hales.
If Morwenstow win their remaining two games, which includes a last day showdown with High Bickington at home on May 25, they will finish the season as champions.
League Cup finalists Putford, who next play on May 15, were without a game.
In the Premier Division, Holsworthy Reserves’ Premier Division clash with Shamwickshire Rovers was postponed due to the first team being at home, but the game has been rescheduled for this evening at Upcott Field (7.30pm).
In the Senior Division, Shebbear United dropped a place after bottom side Lynton climbed up to fourth from last following a 4-3 victory over fellow strugglers Bideford Reserves. Sheb were without a game.
No games were scheduled in Intermediate Two.

THE Blues headed up to Willand looking for revenge from their defeat a week earlier, but the home side’s attack ensured Halwill came up just short in a seven-goal thriller.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL ROUND-UP - Sunday, May 5
BUDE Town’s hopes of survival in Cornwall Women’s League Division One took a huge blow on Sunday as they were beaten 3-2 at third bottom Wadebridge.
The Seasiders headed down the A39 desperate to close the gap, but are now nine points behind with two games to go.
They can however finish above Penryn who are two ahead.
The Bude goalscorers were Rebecca Feltham and Courtney Ward.
In Division Two, Callington Town were 5-0 winners at Troon having scored three in the first half.
Bradworthy look set to finish third in the Devon Women’s League Premier Division after a 4-2 success in East Devon at Crediton United.
They trailed 2-1 at the break thanks to a mad five-minutes spell, but produced a superb turnaround.
Player of the match was striker Dani Bailey who scored twice, while Leanne Stanbury and Sarah Badham were also on target.
Halwill had the day off in the North/East Division.
