BUDE Town’s new manager Steve Hackett will get his first chance to taste life as a South West Peninsula League manager when his side welcome Dobwalls to Broadclose Park on the opening day of the Premier West season on Saturday, August 3.

The Seasiders have lost the majority, if not all, of last year’s first team squad following the departure of Ben Potter at the end of the season, so Hackett will be glad of a home game.

He steps up following three successful campaigns as reserve team manager, and has already confirmed a number of that squad are stepping up three divisions.

Bude aren’t involved in the first midweek round of fixtures but are one of just two games set for August 10 when they visit Wadebridge Town. Ten clubs asked for no fixture due to the Boardmasters Festival in Newquay.

Bude’s location means they aren’t involved in as many midweek games as the majority of other clubs.

They are due to visit Truro City Reserves on August 17 for one of the first ever games at the club’s new home ground at Langarth, before rounding off the month with three fixtures in seven days.

Bude go to Sticker for an important game on August 24 before they welcome North Cornwall rivals Launceston on August 28.

A busy month ends with a trip to promotion-hopefuls Newquay on August 31.

Bude don’t have a midweek game in September until Wednesday the 18th when they visit Liskeard Athletic, with their tasks before seeing them welcome Callington Town and then a trip to promoted St Day.

Town entertain Truro City Reserves on September 21 before rounding off the month with a visit from Bodmin Town a week later.

They could be involved in the first round of the Cornwall Senior Cup over the Tuesday and Wednesday at the start of October, before they welcome Wadebridge Town on the 5th.

Four days later they head down to Millbrook for a midweek fixture and are then at Liskeard for a second time in 24 days when they visit in the last 32 of the Walter C Parson League Cup.

Bude welcome Penzance on Saturday, October 19 and then are at Launceston for a midweek fixture ten days later either side of a mouthwatering Friday night trip down the A39 to Camelford on October 25.

November onwards means just Saturday fixtures until the spring, and they have five games that month.

They are at home to Sticker, Newquay and Wendron United on the 2nd, 16th and 30th with trips to Callington Town and Dobwalls sandwiched inbetween.

Bude welcome Millbrook and Liskeard on December 7 and 21 respectively before the eagerly-anticipated derby date with Holsworthy on Boxing Day.

This year it is the Magpies’ turn to be at home with Bude hosting the return fixture on Good Friday.

Hackett’s men start 2025 by going to Bodmin Town on January 4 before entertaining St Day a week later.

They are then due to have the rest of the month off before welcoming North Cornwall rivals Camelford on February 1.

They are also in action on February 8 at Wendron before their next game at Penzance a fortnight later.

As usual, with the likelihood of postponements around, league secretary Phil Hiscox has placed in a number of spare weekends from March 8 to April 12 and on April 26.

Bude are due to end their season by welcoming Holsworthy on Good Friday, April 18 at a kick-off time yet to be announced.

The League Cup final and Champions Bowl are set for May 5 and May 10 respectively.
