Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East latest round-up

LAUNCESTON’S hopes of securing the 20 points needed to seal a return to Division Two East were scuppered on Saturday as the weather saw their clash with Boconnoc abandoned after tea.

The town club posted 218 all out in challenging conditions, but the visitors were flying at 110-0 when the rain set in.

Launceston lost the crucial toss and soon slipped to 64-4, but were rescued by James Dawe and David Sillifant.

They took advantage of some loose bowling – understandable in the weather – to put on 76 before Dawe (49) was caught behind to give Jon Niblett (4-36) the first of his four wickets.

Sillifant reached his half century, and despite getting a top edge to depart for 53, some late order runs from Peter West (17) and Ethan Green (10) helped them reach maximum batting points.

Launceston missed chances to dismiss Rhys Morgans (53no) and Jamie Coates (30no), but with conditions underfoot becoming dangerous, both teams agreed to abandon the match.

Champions Luckett, who saw their rearranged clash at Newquay Seconds on Sunday cancelled, agreed with neighbours Callington Thirds to play a 20 over a side game.

A rejigged home line-up found themselves six down in no time thanks to Blaze Eigenmann (2-39) and Jarvis Hazeldine (3-22).

But the county’s top run-scorer Ryan Brown – batting at six – found fine support from Adam Piper as they each made 52 not out to help Luckett reach 168-6.

Cally also got off to a poor start with Keith Maynard taking 3-13, but Chris Simpson’s 47 gave them a chance.

However they came up three runs short despite late cameos from Mohamed Durrani-Zubair (17no) and Blaze Eigenmann (22no).

Luckett’s county final on Saturday sees them head to St Gluvias in Penryn to tackle Division Three West champions Wendron (12.30pm).

Fourth bottom Werrington Thirds, who are in line for relegation, were dismissed for just 93 at St Austell Thirds who reached their target without losing a wicket.

That result meant St Austell finished second and are in line to go up after their second team were promoted to County Division One.

Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, September 7

LAUNCESTON Seconds rounded off a tough season with an emphatic nine-wicket defeat at St Neot whose 20-point victory guaranteed them the title ahead of St Blazey Seconds by just two points.

Launceston’s season has been blighted by huge availability problems and will hope to rebuild when they take part in the new Division Five East set for next season, and after choosing to bat, were dismissed for just 93.

St Neot eased to victory in just 11 overs to set up a county final against Rosudgeon at St Minver on Saturday (1pm).

St Minver Seconds welcomed St Blazey knowing they needed to win to have any realistic chance of finishing in the top six which would mean Division Four cricket next season in the new restructure.

But it was the visitors that ran out winners by 21-run winners.

Blazey were restricted to 215-6 despite an opening stand of 122 between Darwin Fitzpatrick and George Taylor.

Dan Kendall added 45 before some late wickets restricted Blazey. Jack Gill (2-32) and Neil Meneer (2-52) shared four of the wickets.

St Minver openers Jake Keast (48) and Neil Kent (39) got the innings off to a fine start, but once they were separated, only Jack Gill and Sam Hocking with 33 and 22 respectively made any impression as they were dismissed with more than seven overs remaining.

St Minver ended seventh so will likely be in the new Division Five next season.
