LAUNCESTON Road Runners were busy over the third weekend in May with competitors at events across Cornwall, Devon and further afield.

The Saturday morning Tavy 5k on May 18 saw six members take part which not only saw Jason Shipton (22:05) and Catriona Sell (23:18) finish third in their category, Joe Thomson’s rapid time of 18:07 was enough for first in the M35 section and fifth overall.

Other runners were Elaine Hill (30:44), Jack Pearce (37:24) and Jenna Dunmore (37:25).

The same morning saw three members – Adam Paynter (1:49:28), Jo Northey (1:50:08) and Nick Smith (1:57:14) run the Coast to Coast Copper Trail.

This is an 11.5-mile trail run from Portreath on the north coast to Devoran Quay on the south and follows two historic routes across Cornwall which first opened in 1812 to help the mines transport copper to the ports.

The sixth race in the Cornish Grand Prix running series is the Trevornick 10K around Holywell Bay in Newquay on Sunday, May 19, and is slightly different in that it is a multi-terrain race.

Nine Launceston members took part with the times as follows: Kevin Marshall – 45:00 (first in M55-60 category); Eddie Thompson – 55:27; Claire Winfield – 56:11; Angela Brinicombe 1:00:52; Emma James – 1:05:27; Linda Pickard – 1:06:10; John Barnes – 1:08:03; Martin Venning – 1:11:01; Lavinia Marshall – 1:14:48 (first in F70-74 category).

Bude RATs, who are gearing up to hold their annual Bude Lifeboat Run on Wednesday, June 12, had just the one representative in Stephen Hutchinson who was second in the M70-74 section in a time of 56:54.

Sunday, May 11 saw the Great Bristol Half Marathon with four Launceston members heading up the M5.

Wayne Rundle (1:52:42) and Mike Charlwood (1:56:21) were will inside the two-hour mark with Sharon Rundle (2:39:32) and Jo Bailey (2:57:06) also crossing the line.
