A RECORD breaking Launceston powerlifter has won her first competition back following a 10 month break from the platform.
Jade Farrington took part in the Endurance Invitational in Newton Abbot, organised by international powerlifter Chris Morgan in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, on Saturday, August 22.
Powerlifters usually compete to see how much they can lift for a single rep, so the endurance competition forced them out of their comfort zones. The women lifted 50% of their bodyweight, and men 100% of bodyweight, as many times as possible without stopping.
Jade said: “It was my first endurance competition and it was a completely new experience. I weighed in at 59.5kg so there was 30kg on the bar for me to bench press as many times as I could.
“I managed 40 reps with two faults, giving me a final total of 38 and first place.
“It was a great way to come back from 10 months out due to illness and injury and I’m looking forward to the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association South West Championships in October where I’m aiming to break another record and qualify for the national championships.”
Jade held the BDFPA national single lift bench press record in her previous weight category and currently holds six south west powerlifting records.
