ONE-HUNDRED and two players from all over Cornwall braved the atrocious conditions to play the 36-hole foursomes Baron Bowl at Launceston Golf Club on Thursday, June 13.

A club spokesperson said: “I’d like to thank Launceston Golf Club for ensuring we were well-fed and provided with much-needed hot drinks at the end.

“Also a big thank you to county competition secretary Debbie Harmer, county treasurer Mandy Harvey and starters for the day Helen Davey and Alan Creber for their continued hard work throughout the competition. It was a very long day for all, and your efforts are appreciated by everyone.

“Thank you to the ground staff, the course held-up in very bad conditions, while all scores can be found online under Cornwall Ladies County Golf Association’s Golf ‘How Did I Do’ section.

The winners of the Baron Rose Bowl for the best score over 36 holes was Perranporth duo Vicky Lee Comyn and Mandy Wright (145) who finished six shots ahead of St Enodoc duo Caroline Hume-Kendall (151), while the club also won the Baron Bowl Team Trophy.

The team was Anna Sendall, Danielle Hardwick, Nikki Hodge, Mable Gosling-Brown, Vicky Lee Comyn and Mandy Wright.

The top three respective AM and PM scores were: AM – 1 Jill Tucker and Annie Quartermain (Bude) – 73 (c/b); 2 Alison Smith and Mel Byrne (Falmouth) – 73; 3 Nikki Hodge and Mabel Gosling-Brown (Perranporth) – 74. PM – 1 Sandy King and Wendy Shore (Looe) – 78; 2 Carmel Connors and Mo Hammond (Falmouth) – 79 (c/b); 3 Jan Harrison and Sara Taylor (St Enodoc) – 79.

Launceston’s lady section held their third Medal event of the summer last Thursday in lovely conditions with Dawn Phillott and Amanda Harvey winning the respective divisions.

The scores were as follows: Division One: 1 Dawn Phillott – nett 69; 2 Teona Chegwyn – 72; 3 Sarah Ockwell – 73; Division Two: 1 Amanda Harvey – nett 74; 2 Jill Watson – 76; 3 Elizabeth Swords – 77.
