MEMBERS of Launceston Road Runners and Camelford Up and Running headed to the Cornish capital on Sunday, September 14 to run the Truro Half Marathon.

The 13.1-mile race is event 12 of the 14-race 2024 Cornish Grand Prix Series and the course is almost entirely on road.

It starts with a loop of central Truro, and runs out to Porth Kea, Playing Place and Cowlands, but had a few hills to keep runners on their toes.

Darren Evans was by far the fastest Launceston member over the line in a superb time of one hour, 36 minutes and 45 seconds, while Eddie Thomson (1:47:13) and Claire Winfield (1:57:58) also finished inside two hours.

Peter James was just one second over that threshold, while Wayne Rundle (2:02:57), Emma James (2:15:53) and Lavinia Marshall (2:36, who was third in the F70-75 age group.

Camelford were represented by Hollie Hutchins and Emma Deanes who ran it together and finished in 2:38:27 and 2:38:28 respectively.

The Roadford Reservoir Charity Run, which was held on the same day and was in support for Devon Air Ambulance, saw four members of Launceston make the short trip up the A30.

Jon Kappes (44:52) was just inside the magical 45-minute area, while Andrew Simpson (54:52), Mark Simpson (57:38) and Mark Sluggett (1:04:00) also competed.

Mark Sluggett’s time wasn’t helped by managing to get slightly lost.

Launceston’s Jeanette Johnson was part of the Cornwall team that achieved gold in the Chippenham Half Marathon in Wiltshire, a race that also is part of the Inter Counties Championship.

Jeanette went around at a pace of just over six and a half minute miles in her time of 1:26:56, a superb feat, particularly at this time of year.

She was second in the F50 age group, less than 45 seconds behind Jacqueline Rockliffe.
