Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up - Saturday, June 15
THE returning Dan Howgill made 95 not out as Werrington Thirds earned a five-wicket success at Grampound Road Seconds.
Earlier in the day, spinners Paul Miller (1-22) and Sam Smeeth (2-32) were the picks as Grampound Road made 214-7 in a game reduced to 40 overs.
Howgill then opened the batting and was still there at the end as the target was reached midway through the 34th over.
Forty-eight extras helped their case while Dan Warring (23) and Richard Stanbury (22) also chipped in.
Launceston were beaten by two wickets at Roche Seconds despite a thrilling late comeback.
Launceston were going along well at 137-3 before they slipped to 164-6, which included the big wicket of Darren Jenkin for 54. Earlier, Finlay Worth (27) and Phil Spry (20) had made starts.
David Sillifant found support from Glyn Hutchings (10) and Matt Bloomfield (16) to get the score past 200, Sillifant departing for 36.
Bloomfield then took care of the openers cheaply, before Neil and Mark Trudgeon added 110 for the third wicket.
Mark was eventually out for 27, but that led to George Oakley taking the game away from the visitors with a brutal 45 from just 23 balls which included five huge sixes.
Matt Davey returned with 35 needed from eight overs, and produced a superb spell to take 4-36, but Neil Trudgeon’s superb unbeaten 90 got the hosts home with two wickets and ten balls to spare.
Leaders Luckett saw their game at Newquay Seconds postponed due to travellers on the pitch, while Callington Thirds were beaten by their St Austell counterparts at Gunnislake.
St Austell made 144-6 in a game reduced to 25 overs despite Toby Beresford-Power’s 3-29, and although Cally had a good go at the total, they were 12 short.
Tom Neville (27), Charlie Crichton (23no) and James Moon (20) all reached 20.
