THE Holsworthy and District Ladies Skittles League have been busy in recent weeks with a number of team and individual competitions.
The first was the Five Founders Knockout Cup at Pyworthy Hall on Saturday, March 2, where each club in both divisions field a team of six ladies to compete.
The whole day, full of many ‘oohs and ahhs’, good play, good humour and great sportsmanship, resulted with Bradford A/B beating Highampton 301-300.
Both winning teams averaged over 300 pins in each game throughout; Judith Nicholls, floored the highest single score an amazing 77 pins, with her team-mates Milton Damerel scored 330, the highest team score of the day.
The most popular place between games was the cafe, where the ladies enjoyed a chat and super refreshments served by Linda Knight and helpers.
Also at Pyworthy, were the annual Individual Knockout Cup competitions.
The lady with the highest average from each club played this competition; many games were won by one or two pins but we were all entertained throughout with much enthusiasm and cheering from spectators.
The semi-finals saw Poundstock have a convincing win over Magpie/RBL, while Whitstone against St Giles resulted in a draw and an extra three rubs played with St Giles winning.
The final was yet again a very nailbiting game with Liz Fisher (St Giles) beating Poundstock’s Nancy Reilly by a solitary point at 50-49.
The Challenge Knockout Cup being the last of the season for the Holsworthy Ladies Skittles League was held at Pyworthy on March 9.
A team of six ladies from each club fielded a team.
Steady play and much excitement from both players and spectators made for a great final where North Tamerton and Highampton, who both enjoyed convincing wins in the semi-finals, saw North Tamerton edge to a 302-296 success.
