North Devon Table Tennis League latest round-up
HOLSWORTHY A produced a fine performance to hold defending champions Smugglers to a 5-5 draw in Division One last Tuesday night.
On a night where no fewer than half of the matches went to deciding sets, the hosts took the lead as David Sillifant beat Peter Hedge in five from 2-1 down.
Aleks Worth doubled the advantage by seeing off Jack Thomas in five as well before Matt Thomas won the first of his three.
Wins for Worth and Jeremy Skelton made it 4-2 but Smugglers stayed in the game with Thomas defying a fine comeback from Worth to make it 4-3.
Skelton overcame Hedge in five to make it 5-3, but Jack Thomas defeated Sillifant in five which was added to by the doubles.
Holsworthy X were beaten 6-4 at Misfits despite David Streak’s trio of wins.
He dropped just one set all night and was unlucky in the doubles as he and Peter Freeburn were beaten 12-10 in the decider.
Freeburn won one of his three outings – against Peter Kneil – and was beaten in five by Keith Le Milliere.
Both Holsworthy B and C were in action in Division Two last week.
The C team headed up to Instow Parish to tackle Dolphins and secured a 5-5 draw despite a treble from John Glass.
Both Ezra Jukes and Julia Cornish recorded doubles for Holsworthy which was added to by Sumiyo Berkeley’s five-set success over Christine Isaac.
Holsworthy B welcomed last year’s winners Littleham and were defeated 7-3.
David Stone led the way with a treble for the visitors which was added to by Alan Pomeroy (2), Mike Bellew and the doubles.
The home trio of Barry Stearman, Jeremy Rickman and Alan Quilter earned a win apiece, but they remain bottom of the table on 12 points from five games.
