SWPL PREMIER WEST (FRIDAY)

Bude Town 1 Holsworthy 3

THE Magpies ensured they ended the season with three victories over their cross-border rivals with a 3-1 success at Broadclose Park on Good Friday.

Bude took a 17th minute lead when Callum Deemer fired a fine shot home from 20 yards, but Holsworthy were level inside two minutes via an own goal.

The Seasiders were the better side for much of the second half despite the visitors enjoying more possession as the half went on, but late goals from corners from Dean Hutchings and Toby Martyn sealed three points for Ryan Hall’s men.

The two clubs had met a week earlier at Upcott Field which was decided by Ollie Moores’ early header, and there were changes in personnel for both sides.

Holsworthy brought in midfielder Max McDonald and striker Todd Peschke, while Bude drafted in attacker Dylan Morgan as they switched to a 4-3-3 formation.

Bude were the better side in the second half a week earlier, but found Ryan Chadwick in inspired form, and the Magpies came out determined to show why they are pushing for the top seven.

On 14 minutes they had a golden chance as wing-back Callum Martyn failed to make a proper connection with Todd Peschke’s ball across the six-yard box.

They were punished three minutes later as after a long free-kick wasn’t dealt with, and Deemer gave Chadwick no chance with a drilled effort.

However, Bude failed to hold on to their lead as Holsworthy mustered an immediate response.

Another set-piece, given despite home appeals for a foul on James Wheeler, was swung in, and as a Bude defender went to clear, he could only hit it straight against Dylan Morgan and into the net.

That settled the Devonians down, but they were nearly made to pay on the stroke of half-time as after a corner wasn’t cleared, Harvey Dennis hooked a shot towards the far corner which Chadwick superbly pushed away.

Bude were determined to end their season on a high and dominated up to the hour, although rarely troubled Chadwick.

They did so on 63 minutes as a shot from the edge of the box from Maximus Alvarez-Lopera saw the Holsworthy keeper get down well.

Holsworthy have struggled to score many goals despite their recent strong run of form, but once again their trusted set-pieces came to the fore.

On 73 minutes a corner from Max McDonald wasn’t dealt with by the home defence and sub Dean Hutchings hooked a superb finish over his shoulder and into the corner.

That settled the visitors down and it was game over seven minutes later.

Rowe flapped at Gavin Carter’s corner and as the ball dropped, joint man-of-the-match Toby Martyn fired in.

Bude, who finish third bottom despite having to put together a new side over the summmer, never seriously troubled Chadwick again, as the Magpies celebrated after the whistle.
