Launceston Cup semi-final at Launceston FC

Altarnun 1

St Cleer 3

ZAK Peel scored twice as St Cleer clinched a place in the Launceston Cup final for just the second time in their history with a dominant display over Altarnun at Pennygillam.

St Cleer started brightly and took the lead on 20 minutes when a shot across the Altarnun box was only partially saved by Matt Heynes and Peel was on hand to follow up and score.

Altarnun hit back after 35 minutes in similar fashion to the first goal when the initial shot was only parried out and Jowan Knights fired the ball into the net meaning the teams went into the interval on level terms.

St Cleer were showing greater desire to win the game in the second-half and took the lead when a long throw seemed to cause confusion in the Altarnun defence and Jordan Dennis scored from inside the penalty area. The clinching goal from the Duchy One high-flyers came on the hour mark when Peel scored with a rasping drive from 25 yards from goal which evaded the despairing dive of Heynes to nestle into the bottom corner of the net and secure St Cleer a chance to play in the final for the first time since 1983, when they lost to Hatherleigh.

North Devon League side Bridgerule will be in the showpiece for the first time, meaning a new name on the trophy come Sunday, May 5.

Kick-off is at 6pm.
