Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, August 31

LAUNCESTON Seconds know they will be playing in the new Division Five East next term but were left disappointed after falling to a 30-run defeat by mid-table Pencarrow at Lawhitton on Saturday.

The first half went well as Tommy Davey (2-20), Brett Grosvenor (2-21), Kevin Worth (2-30) and Shane Davey (2-9) took braces as the visitors were all out for 151 with just two balls remaining of their 40-over allocation.

Nobody made more than Kenzie Dalley’s 19, but with six others reaching double figures and 28 extras being sent down, they had a chance.

Launceston then imploded as three of the top four fell for ducks.

And although Richard Burdon made a boundary-filled 32 from number seven and four others reached double figures, nobody could go on as they were dismissed for 121 with just 31.2 overs gone. Peter Bassett took 4-39 from his ten overs with Phil Williams (3-27) not far behind.

With the top six staying in the new Division Four for next season and the other six forming the league below, Pencarrow are all but relegated also.

St Minver Seconds ensured their hopes of overtaking sixth-placed Menheniot-Looe Seconds went to the final day after an impressive two-wicket success at St Neot.

Duloe made a competitive 163-7 despite Nigel Hocking (3-22) and Stuart Brill (3-46) taking three wickets apiece, and although nobody in the visiting ranks went big, they got over the line with 11 balls to spare as five batsmen – Neil Meneer (22), Steve Hawke (26), Jack Gill (22), Steve Meneer (21) and Sam Hocking (20) passed twenty.

Elsewhere in the division, St Neot remain on course for the title after Buckland Monachorum conceded, while St Blazey Seconds took the race to the final day after they thrashed St Stephen by 116 runs.
