Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, July 27
ST MINVER Seconds remain in real danger of finishing in the bottom four after two emphatic away defeats over the weekend.
On Saturday they travelled to leaders St Neot Seconds and after being sent in, mustered 151-6 from their 40 overs.
Opener Neil Kent made 32 and Neil Meneer 20, but it was unbeaten knocks of 23 and 33 respectively from Steve Meneer and Jack Gill that gave them a chance.
But although Jack Gill dismissed Andrew Tamblyn for seven, David Eldridge (67no) and David Masters (59no) got the chase done.
A scratch side headed to Newquay Thirds on Sunday and lost by 65 runs.
They started well as Newquay slipped to 50-3, before forties from Syed Ali and Sam Millatt and 38 from Alfie Bishop helped the Reds reach 202-9.
Opening bowlers Jack Gill (3-44) and Charlie Edwards (2-32) shared five wickets.
The reply never got going as they reached just 137-9.
Gill completed a fine all-round weekend with 45, and although Steve Meneer (21) and Phillip Kent (25) made twenties, they couldn’t get close.
Launceston Seconds were thrashed by 152 runs by their visiting Lanhydrock counterparts at Lawhitton.
Despite David Cox’s superb figures of 2-12 from ten overs, the Bodmin club racked up 254-5 with Jamie Taylor making 98.
Launceston were missing plenty as shown by their third team having to concede, and mustered just 102 in response with Cox completing a decent day personally with 38 from number five.
The result leaves Launceston second bottom, 17 points behind eighth-placed Newquay Thirds who they may have to overhaul.
Things don’t get any easier for the town outfit this Saturday as they are away to title-chasing St Blazey Seconds (1pm), while St Minver go to mid-table Menheniot-Looe Seconds.
