Division Four East latest round-up
LAUNCESTON Seconds were brought back down to earth on Saturday as they were beaten by 90 runs at their Menheniot-Looe counterparts.
Tom Harris accelerated brilliantly late on as he ended up 123 not out in the home side’s big score of 259-8.
It would have been far more if it wasn’t for 4-38 from ten overs from Brett Grosvenor, while Morgan Jones (3-37) took some late wickets.
With the thirds having to concede, Launceston were far from full strength, but Richard Burdon played superbly for 66 not out as they batted their 40 overs for 168-6.
St Minver Seconds threw away a promising position to lose by 32 runs at Pencarrow.
The first half could hardly have gone any better for the visitors as the Meneers – Neil (3-24 off 8) and Steve (3-25 off 5) – shared six wickets after good early spells from Dennis Bryant (1-35 off 10) and Nigel Hocking (2-23 off 10).
But Pencarrow’s bowling attack is one of the better in the division and St Minver couldn’t cope.
Neil Meneer made 26 from seven, and Steve Meneer 19 from number three, but nobody else made double figures as they slipped to 99 all out.
For Pencarrow, Joe Wilson took 3-21 from ten overs while Peter Bassett’s 3-17 from seven wasn’t far behind.
Elsewhere in the division, there were some fine individual performances.
Toby Haley smashed 138 not out for leaders St Neot in their nine-wicket victory at St Stephen, while Jim Maunder made 115 in Buckland Monachorum’s victory at Lanhydrock Seconds.
Duloe continue to be towards the top after a 25-run success at St Blazey Seconds who lost again on Sunday at St Neot by five wickets having made 158-6.
Newquay Thirds enjoyed a great weekend as they beat both Grampound Road Thirds and Lanhydrock on home soil.
