BUDE played top of the league Stoke Gabriel at home on Sunday.

The home side knew this would be a tough match but felt up for it and it showed.

Bude played some of their best football of the season, frustrating Stoke in the process.

Lily Godwood 'opened the scoring' after neat play from Lizzy Jenkins and Leona Marsh but this was ruled offside.

Zoe West had a magnificent game, managing to cancel out Stoke's dangerous striker Kat Marment and 'keeper Lisa Cornish was at her very best, confident and dominant.

Goal-less at half time, manager Richard Haydon pushed the girls for the win and they knew it was there for the taking.

Bude camped in Stoke's half and forced Stoke's defence into panicky play.

Passing around Stoke the ball found Del Reah in front of goal and she bent it into the bottom left corner.

Despite Stoke's quality strikeforce they could not find the equaliser - Steph Haydon, Leanne Stanbury and Reanne Westlake were not in the mood to be beaten.

Tegan Nichols came on and her pace and skill upped the game to another level - with spirits high and huge determination Bude held on for the win 1-0.
