SEVENTEEN-year-old Dan Rooke from Holsworthy recently took part in his first Rallycross at Croft Race Circuit, North Yorkshire, in the Tetcott Garage prepared Citroen AX GTi.
After three qualifying heats, he found himself sitting on the front row of the grid, next to British Super 1600 Champion, 19-year-old Jack Thorne, from Tiverton in his Citroen C2, who was in pole position.
The two young drivers used to race each other in karts nine years ago. Thorne led from start to finish, and won the final and the up to 1600cc class.
After a poor start, Rooke fought his way back to 3rd overall and 1st in the 1600-2100cc class. "This was a toe in the water test after the Autocross season, as I would like to do the Rallycross Championship next year" Dan said.
