Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East preview – Saturday, July 20
LEADERS Werrington Seconds face a pivotal weekend in their season as they face a double-header.
Although the forecast is poor at best on Saturday when they welcome Holsworthy, the only other side to beat them in the league, it is much more positive for Sunday when they are due to visit bottom side Tintagel.
Saturday’s side is close to full strength with the exception of all-rounder Mark Hodgson who misses both, while Sunday sees Ryan Pooley, Tyler May and Rob Dymond come in for the unavailable Billy Uglow, George Rickard and Hugh Tomkinson.
WERRINGTON SECONDS v Holsworthy: Marley May, George Rickard, Billy Uglow, Tom Lyle, Hugh Tomkinson, Dan Howgill, Rob May, Simon Bishop (wkt), Jason Seldon (capt), Ian Searle, Nick Oldaker.
Tintagel v WERRINGTON SECONDS: Marley May, Rob May, Ryan Pooley, Tom Lyle, Dan Howgill, Rob Dymond, Simon Bishop (wkt), Jason Seldon (capt), Ian Searle, Nick Oldaker, Tyler May.
Holsworthy give a debut to promising seamer Dan Lucas in place of the unavailable Rob Mitchell, while long-time opener Jack May is back in contention and bats in the middle order in place of Sam Stacey.
Left-arm spinner Graham Wild and seamer Guy Beagley are also available for the Trees as they look to bounce back from a six-wicket defeat by Callington Seconds last time out.
HOLSWORTHY at Werrington Seconds: Chris Pomeroy (wkt), Jack Greening, Herschelle Poggenpoel, Ryan Walter (capt), Aiden Gerry, Jack May, Dan Smith, Brendan Harris, Guy Beagley, Dan Lucas, Graham Wild.
TINTAGEL know they need to start winning to have any chance of survival, and have a golden chance when they welcome fellow strugglers Ladock on Saturday, before they entertain Werrington on Sunday.
Saturday’s team is far from full strength with Tom Parsons, Matt Pethick and Gyles Reynolds all unavailable which gives chances to the likes of batsman Callum Flew and promising youngster Rocco Reynolds.
TINTAGEL v Ladock: Jordan Blanchard, Akobe Earle, Jordan Burnard, Matt Jolliffe (capt), Adrian Pooley, Sam Abbott (wkt), Callum Flew, Vedavyas Chowdare, James Ellis, Simon Fry, Rocco Reynolds.

BUDE and St Minver are enjoying good seasons, sitting fourth and fifth respectively, and face off at Crooklets. Bude are pretty much at full strength with the exception of Wayne Adams, but fellow batsmen Lee Houghton and Matt Whitefield return as Chris Carter drops down to the second team.
St Minver are without key opener and wicket-keeper Ben Hawken, which means a recall from Archie Edwards who made 52 at Buckland Monachorum last Saturday for the seconds, while veteran Andy Rathborne and Ben Lamb also come in.
BUDE v St Minver: James Sharman, Matt Williams, Warren Rumble (capt, wkt), Lee Houghton, Matt Whitefield, James Turner, Matt Mansbridge, Andrew De Rosa, Harry Dymond, Brett Hunter, Mark Whitefield.
ST MINVER at Bude: Antony Ash, Archie Edwards, Kelvin Lockwood, Jonny Centini, Alek Gill (capt), Reece Thompson, Ben Lamb, Rob Hawken, Andy Rathborne (wkt), Dean Jeffery, Josh Sanders.
AT THE bottom end of the table, there is huge clash at South Petherwin as welcome Lanhydrock.
Petherwin were denied a probable win by the weather in the reverse fixture and will hope to turn the tables on the Bodmin-based club.
They welcome back opener Mike Bolt, all-rounder Adam Creasey and wicket-keeper Ben Crocombe from the side thrashed at Bude, but key all-rounder Sam Pengelly is missing once more, as are Cornwall Over 50s duo Adrian Warne and Kev Horrell.
SOUTH PETHERWIN v Lanhydrock: Mike Bolt, Billy Martin, Andrew Brenton, Paul Clements, Jacob Masters (capt), Adam Creasey, Adrian Clements, Ollie Peterson, James Weeks, Owen Barnes, Ben Crocombe (wkt).
Callington Seconds have been in good form in recent weeks, and the Greens will look for a third straight victory when they welcome table-toppers St Austell Seconds.
They have strengthened the batting with the inclusion of James Brenton who has dropped down from the ones, with opening bowler Ben Alford going the other way.
Off-spinner Rhys Hodge also gets a recall as does the hard-hitting Charlie Coates with Peter Tancock and Zak Newton-Jenkins having an outing in the threes.
CALLINGTON SECONDS v St Austell Seconds: Ben Allsop, Richard Brown (capt), Alex Robinson, James Brenton, Blake Tancock, Charlie Coates, James Moon (wkt), Jim Shorten, Rhys Hodge, Ryan Hodge, Spencer Whatley.
