SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)
Wadebridge Town 2 Bude Town 0
BUDE Town showed promise before being beaten 2-0 at Wadebridge Town on Saturday.
The Seasiders were missing eight players from the side that faced Dobwalls, and after defending well for the opening 30 minutes, were undone when Sam Hepworth headed home a cross.
Wadebridge soon doubled their lead when Ty Rowe parried a shot into the path of debutant Louis Taylor who made no mistake.
Bude responded as Mason Tape had a shot saved at full stretch by Rob Rosevear, while Jago Tweitman ran through on goal to only be scuppered by the pitch which caused problems all afternoon.
Bude started the second half well as Steve Box, Mason Tape and their man of the match Ewan Reeves all came close.
Wadebridge, who included Harry Hopcroft in their line-up following his move from Bude over the summer, had chances too, but Rowe was equal to everything.
New signing from North Petherwin, Joe Reeve, was excellent in defence but it finished 2-0.
Bude Town boss Steve Hackett said: “We are proud of how we have competed against Dobwalls and now Wadebridge who will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. “It’s important that we keep learning, cut out individual errors and believe in ourselves.
“Even though we came away beaten, we were under strength and on top of Wadebridge for periods of the game, so there are really positive signs of what’s to come.”
Elsewhere in the division on a day where just two fixtures were scheduled due to the Boardmasters festival, Callington won 2-1 at Millbrook thanks to Kevin McCallion’s double.
