HOLSWORTHY Reserves’ inconsistent start to the season in the North Devon League Premier Division continued on Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 by visiting Shamwickshire Rovers.
The Magpies were looking to build on their 7-1 success over Torridgeside Reserves a week earlier, but were undone by their Bideford-based opponents.
Ben Sharpe kept up his fine goal-scoring form the Magpies, while midfielder Scott Bingham also netted.
Holsworthy will aim to bounce back on Saturday when they head to Appledore Reserves.
With Morwenstow in Cornwall Intermediate Cup action at St Ives Town, Shebbear United were the only Post area side in action in the Senior Division, and the Tangerines finally lost their unbeaten record at high-flying Boca Seniors Reserves who moved into second.
The first 20 minutes were relatively even, but once the hosts went in front from a corner the visitors felt should have been a goal-kick, the second arrived soon after.
Shebbear had their chances on the counter through Mark Parnell, Chris Wildern and James Vanstone, while Hayden Nimmo saw an effort cleared off the line.
But in the second half the home side were clinical once more and added a further three.
In Intermediate One, Bradworthy were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Combe Martin Reserves despite Bradley Birch’s second half equaliser, while Putford won the local derby at Langtree Lions by five goals to two.
Alex Parker was at the double for the visitors with Chris Pomeroy, Harvey Dack and Will Jeremy also netting.
Elsewhere in the division, Ethan Hookway was Morwenstow’s scorer in a 2-1 defeat to visiting Georgeham and Croyde Rovers, while Holsworthy were beaten 6-3 at Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves.Andrew Furse, Joel Greening and sub Harry Grigg got the Magpies goals.
In the Devon and Exeter League Bill Slee Cup, Halwill lost 3-2 on penalties to visiting Upottery Reserves following a 2-2 draw.
