A choice between two very different races was available this weekend for the East Cornwall Harriers.
First up on the Saturday evening was the Ivybridge 10km, a popular, fast road course good for setting a local 10k PB.
The following morning saw the Trevornick Trot, a challenging 10-mile off-road route over the beach and dunes at Holywell Bay, Newquay.
Unable to decide three Harriers decided to enter both!
Just under 700 entrants completed the Ivybridge 10k and first back for the Harriers was Brandon Van Blerk in 83rd in 42.27, only just ahead of Jenny Nash, 85th, 42.36. Revis Crowle continues to improve following long-term injury to finish 93rd, 43.17.
With one eye on the challenging 10-miler the next morning Diane Roy ran well to get inside the top 100 in 96th, 43.24. Continuing to impress in senior races, ECH's youngest entrant, Alex Coley, put in a fantastic performance to finish 105th, 43.41. Only one place and one second separated Ian Crowle, 110th, 43.50 and Andrew Sims 111th, 43.51. The second Harrier running a double-header was Ben Harding home in 131st, 45.02 being chased by Glenn Wood 167th, 46.15. A welcome return by Aaron Crowle saw him finish 211th, 48.02 while the last of the three Harriers to run both races was Rob Pick 228th, 48.44.
Ray Goodright finished inside the 50-minute mark in 263rd, 49.49, Paul Nottle 304th, 51.34 just finished ahead of Jane Lockyer, 306th 51.35 while Jane's husband Jim Lockyer was the next Harrier back in 409th, 54.29. Karen Sims finished 477th, 56.31, Carol Pollard 487th, 57.09 and Craig Vaughnley 507th, 58:02.
There were 249 finishers at the Trevornick Trot the following morning which, while there may have been fewer numbers, was no less competitive.
Leading the Harriers back and setting his fastest time for two years was Chris Ullman, 38th, 1.14.18. Diane Roy led the Harriers' ladies back in 65th, 1.18.55 not far ahead of Sharon Daw, 74th, 1.20.13. Making their debuts at this event, Ben Harding, 84th, 1.21.17 and Joe Kearns 88th, 1.22.06 battled all the way around.
Ladies captain Louise Littlewood set a three and a half minute PB in 121st, 1.28.11 and Rob Pick finished in 138th, 1.31.46.
