THIS Saturday, and for the first time ever, Abergavenny will host the longest running consecutive triathlon in the UK.

The 32nd Blaenafon Triathlon will this year be run from Abergavenny and the town is very proud to play a part in staging the iconic event.

Y Fenni Triathlon club helped out with the triathlon last year, and are relishing to be a part of its history when it comes through Abergavenny.

The event will include a 800M pool swim, a 32mile bike ride, including the tumble, and a 7.2 mile run to the top of the Sugar Loaf.

To quote race founder Dr Gareth Buffett, "A triathlon to my mind should be a challenge, an adventure going somewhere different and feeling you have achieved something at the end of it."

For those of you planning your first attempt - be prepared for an adventure!

Event organiser Mike Hill explained, "The most relaxing part of the race is the pool swim, followed by a tough bike ride, which will include the infamous tumble climb towards Blaenafon.

"Participants will then head out to Brynmawr and Beaufort before they face a very cheeky climb over the Llangynidr Moors with a fast descent, leading to a fast and flat trip on the Brecon Road towards Crickhowell, and then finally home to Abergavenny for the grand finale - an ascent to the peak of the Sugar Loaf."

The whole thing kicks off this Saturday with a provisional start time of 10am, and as Mike said, "It's going to be tough, but spectacular."
