On May 8, 31 choristers, wives, partners, a musical director and friends of the choir boarded two coaches bound for London. The choristers were due to sing at the Royal Albert Hall along with 900 other voices from choirs across Wales, Britain and even as far as Australia.

A packed audience was treated to some wonderful singing under the baton of Alwyn Humphreys, the festival conductor, who was delighted at the sound the massed choir produced.

Whitland stayed at the Holiday Inn in Kensington and, after the concert, the bar in the hotel was alive with the many voices of Whitland, Haverfordwest, Aberystwyth and Cwmman choirs celebrating the success of all their hard work.

A busy but exciting weekend. One Whitland tenor was heard to say it was a tremendous experience, one he would not have missed for anything.

The choir's only concert in May was a charity concert held in a marquee at Castell Dwyrain Farm, near Llanfallteg. Soloists for this evening were Jess Robinson, a great favourite, the school choir from Ysgol Beca, who sang a few items, and there was a surprise appearance by the Clunderwen YFC rally.

Hefina, our accompanist, was appearing at the 'maes' in the Urdd Eisteddfod that evening, so Juliet, our MD, performed the task of both accompanist and conductor from the piano. She also accompanied Jess in all her items.

Arrangements are now finalised for the concert at Llanddewi Village Hall where the choir will perform with Peter Karrie, the West End musical theatre star, who is touring Wales as part of 'small-hall tours'.

Then, later in June, we will entertain at Picton Castle where visitors from a cruise ship will spend a few hours on their tour of Pembrokeshire.

Another interesting month ahead.
