A DEFIANT Forest couple who were holidaying in Tunisia during the terrorist attack said they never felt so safe and would return tomorrow.
Christine and Philip Morgan, of Bream, refused to let the atrocity spoil their ninth trip to Port El Kantaoui, where the attack happened, and continued with their holiday.
Christine said: "We were only two days into our 11-day holiday when the attack happened. Our holiday provider Thomson gave us the choice to return home but we decided to stay; we just felt that by staying we would be safer than those who were fleeing to the airport. The security was second-to-none and guarded policemen were everywhere – I never felt so safe.
"My daughter texted me to tell me to get the next plane home but I said we were fine and would be continuing with our holiday.
"Phil and I were in the hotel pool at the time of the attack and it was only when people, who'd been on the beach, came running towards the hotel shouting at everybody to go to their rooms that we realised something awful had happened.
"We shared the beach with the guests staying at the hotel affected – so it felt very scary. Our hotel staff were so apologetic and embarrassed by what had happened, they really couldn't do enough for us.
"A week after the attack a minute silence was held on the beach and the atmosphere was sombre; it was very sad. Shops were shut and staff at our hotel were made redundant as there were only a dozen guests staying there. The attack really has affected the Tunisian economy but I, for one, wouldn't hesitate going back. I love the country and the people."
