Trading Standards at Pembrokeshire County Council are warning people about a lottery scam which appears to be targeting the county.
Numerous people in Pembrokeshire have recently received a letter from the 'People's Postcode Lottery' informing them that they have won a jackpot of £825,000.
The letter says the lottery has been drawn in Madrid, Spain, and that they need to pay of fee of hundreds of pounds to receive their winnings.
It also asks recipients to keep the news of their win confidential until the claim is processed.
A spokeswoman for the genuine People's Postcode Lottery has advised people to treat these types of letters as scams and to ignore them.
She says legitimate lotteries such as theirs would not request a payment in order to receive winnings.
A spokesman for Trading Standards said: "We would like to remind residents of Pembrokeshire that you cannot win a lottery prize if you have not entered a lottery, and that you cannot be chosen at random if you do not have an entry.
"Unfortunately, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is."
