A GERMAN film crew is shooting a Rosamunde Pilcher story in Altarnun.

Almost 100 of Rosamunde Pilcher’s stories have been adapted for German TV’s ZDF TV station — equivalent to our BBC2.

The series has been very popular with German viewers and with many stories set in Cornwall and Devon, it is believed it has helped encourage many Germans to visit.

There are even package tours with companies running ‘Rosamunde Pilcher tours’.

Everything is being filmed by film crew FFP NewMedia GMBH in German with German actors and actresses.

Special thanks have been expressed to Altarnun Parish Council, which has helped co-ordinate arrangements with the film company.

Altarnun’s Parish Clerk Margaret Savage said: “The parish council were delighted when Altarnun village was chosen for the film and pulled out all the stops to make it a positive experience for all, visitors and parishioners alike.

“It is a great opportunity to showcase this iconic Cornish village and hopefully it will attract many more tourists into the area from Germany and elsewhere in Europe.”

The script is based on a story called ‘The Brown Field’.

Various scenes have been shot around the village, and others were due to be shot in the church and in the village hall.

The scene in the village hall is based on two people who left the village in their youth, returned many years later and rekindled their early years of romance — all set in an amateur dramatics group they joined.

A member of the Altarnun Village Hall team, Peter Allen, was due to operate the lighting system for the internal shoot, as it was understood the film crew was so impressed with the lighting equipment the hall has installed, they did not need to spend time installing theirs.

Rosamunde Pilcher OBE wrote many short stories and romance novels between 1949 and 2000. She was born in Lelant.

One novel, The Shell Seekers, was a breakthrough in book sales with more than five million copies sold.

Filming was understood to be ongoing as the Post went to press.
