THE annual St Breward Church Summer Fete was held recently with £1,250 raised towards the ongoing running costs of the church.
On a glorious summer’s day, Strictly Come Barking, a stupendous tea and a thriving ice cream stall all contributed to a wonderful amount.
The fete was opened with a fanfare from St Breward Silver Band followed by Susie Gore, chairman of the League of Friends of Bodmin Hospital.
She explained about the plans for an end of life room and that they would be grateful for donations towards that enterprise.
Each year a different charity is given the opportunity to come and set up a stall and engage with people, while Suzie was delighted to win the day’s top raffle prize!
Outside, there was something to suit all tastes, from shove 1/2d, throwing horseshoes, shuttlecock, a 50/50 game, and a bottle stall – North Cornwall Conservative MP Scott Mann attended and was pleased to win a bottle of wine.
The plant stall as usual continued to dazzle with its colourful array of plants, while those with a sweet tooth were lured by the ice creams for sale and purchases of honey.
All the while, the St Breward Silver Band was playing, adding to those special elements that make a ‘proper village fete’.
Strictly Come Barking, held in Church Meadow alongside the village hall, was great fun with all the animals behaving! Every dog won either a rosette or a medal for their efforts.
Thanks were expressed to those who worked so hard both before, during and afterwards and to those who donated and attended.
