ST BREWARD'S Tower Captain has been ringing the bells of the village church and leading the tower bells team for 30 years — an accolade that was recently celebrated during the church's annual Revel Service.
Bill Hill began ringing the village church bells at St Breward as a teenager, eventually becoming Tower Captain when he took up the position from Dick Crowle in 1985.
Over the subsequent years, the role has involved Bill in overseeing the team, recruiting new members, training, and helping to keep alive other bell ringing teams in adjoining parishes, often helping out himself on a Sunday in other parishes when a ringer short.
Most notable was the merging of the St Breward and Blisland teams to allow for ringing every Sunday at each church.
