YEAR 12 Launceston College student Toby Benson spent the college’s immersive learning week working with Conservative North Cornwall MP Scott Mann and his team, in his office in Bodmin.
Toby wrote: “As a student of A Level Government and Politics this experience was invaluable in illustrating the work that MPs do and their relationship with their constituents. The bulk of my placement consisted of case work. This is where constituents contact the office asking for information or help with something that concerns them, it is then the job of the case worker to help them out.
“One task I was given was to phone up local hospitals to research what facilities they have for prematurely born babies and how many they can provide care for at once.
“On my last day I joined Scott Mann at a local surgery, this is where members of the constituency get a chance to meet with their MP face to face, privately, to discuss their concerns for 20 minutes.
“This was a brilliant opportunity for me and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.”
