A DRY but breezy morning welcomed around 100 brave swimmers for the Tintagel Surf Life Saving Club’s festive swim at Trebarwith.

Coach and committee member Phil Reed told the Post: “We met at 11.30am on Boxing Day to a bright, dry but breezy morning. Around 100 brave souls braved the cold for our annual Christmas/New Year dip.

“Due to tidal conditions at Trebarwith we have to choose the best day over the holidays.”

Club president Peter Savage got proceedings underway with the presidential whistle and a swarm of people made their way safely down to the water’s edge before taking the plunge.

The event raised funds for the club which will be put towards training expenses. Phil said: “Tintagel Surf Life Saving Club is a charity and donations where gratefully received to fund new equipment to aid the training of our members — from the Nippers, seven to 12-year-olds, who learn to be safe in the sea, basic surf life saving techniques, first aid and CPR, to our junior and seniors who take various qualifications up to full bead and surf lifeguards.”

The club welcomes new members both young and old. During winter they train at Camelford pool on Fridays from 6pm to 8pm.
