TINTAGEL was blessed with fine weather for the annual Christmas lights switch on recently.

Elaine Flew from the lighting committee said: "We had a wonderful evening. The village all came out and supported it; it was just a tremendous success. The weather stayed nice."

A torchlit procession was led from the Tintagel Visitor Centre to Trevena Square, where Camelford Town Band played and everyone joined in with some festive carol singing.

Daisy Gabriel, Adam Walker and Poppy Gabriel dressed as Mary, Joseph and an Angel joined the procession.

The band, the Vanity Girls were due to make an appearance but were unable to attend due to illness, so four other girls stepped in at the last minute and distributed sweets and sticks of rock.

"They made it a wonderful evening all round," added Elaine,

Refreshments were served, thanks to the Crossbow Restaurant, and Father Christmas took time out of his busy schedule to give apples and oranges to the children.

The evening also involved all three vicars of the village — Father Bryan Storey, Rev Bryan Ede and Rev John Barfour.

Elaine said that although the lights look lovely this year, the committee are appealing for more help in 2009 — especially from men.

She expressed thanks to Tintagel Parish Council for their support and added: "We couldn't do it without them."
