THERE was something for all the family to enjoy at a charity fun day held in memory of Lydbrook teen Leanne Davies.

Trustees of Leanne's Gift organised the event, which was held at Berry Hill Rugby Club and saw around 200 people turn up.

Gloucestershire Police and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue crews attended to promote the importance of road safety. Among the many activities they organised was a seatbelt sledge which simulates a crash impact at only seven miles per hour but is a forceful reminder of the importance or belting up before every journey.

People could also drive a go-kart both while sober and wearing 'beer goggles' – which is the equivalent to driving two and half times over the legal limit.

Leanne's mum, Heather said: "Both the police and fire crew did a fantastic job promoting road safety – all the people I asked who wore the beer goggles said they would never drink-drive so the message had clearly hit home.

"We raised more than £2,500 for Leanne's Gift which is great; we really couldn't have raised that much without the help and support of Leanne's friends and family, a huge thank you to them all.

"Madison Foxwell dressed up as Elsa from Frozen to entertain the kids while Jess Burton and Bella Morrison provided musical entertainment.

"Since we started the charity 18 months ago, we have raised more than £20,000."

Leanne's Gift, which became a registered charity in January, provides financial support to the families of young people who have been killed in a road traffic collision on a Forest road.

Leanne died aged just 19 in May 2013 while travelling in a car towards Longhope from Mitcheldean.
