SINCE 2016 Co-op’s across the country have donated over 100-million pounds to local causes and on Saturday it was time for another payout/ celebration day in Camelford.

This year the local Co-op Camelford store paid out a total of £8,714.84 to its three causes.

The first being the 1st Camelford Girl Guides who received £2,565.69. This is going to be used to help keep their yearly census low, transport costs to London, gas and other camp costs but to name a few.

Another was the Grow Centre who will use the money, £2,889.94, to buy toiletries, household cleaning items and supplies, wipes, nappies, socks, under wear and lots more clothing as needed.

A spokesperson from Grow Centre said: “We distribute packages from the Food Banks in Wadebridge, Camelford and the surrounding local areas.

“We can provide children/babies clothing and adult interview clothes to buy or free with referrals.

“We also run Christians Against Poverty courses, Job Club and life skills and advertise our local church Souls Harbour, including all its events and clubs.

“Stayed tuned, we have more plans in progress to help support out community.”

And last but not least, which is very important to all that use local beaches, is the Trebarwith RNLI Lifeguards who received a massive £3,259.21 which will go towards equipment that “not only keeps us all safe but also for the life guards who do a fantastic job to keep us safe in one of our most beautiful hotspots”. Unfortunately the members were unable to attend the cheque presentation on Saturday as they were in self-isolation.

On behalf of Co-op Camelford community pioneer Owen Brocklehurst said: “These worthwhile causes have raised these fantastic amounts thanks to Co-op customers buying Co-op goods and using their members cards.

“These great figures could be even more next year so just download the coop app and register, choose a cause and earn 2p for yourself on every £1 spent on coop goods and 2p for your chosen cause or ask in store and as always we look forward to seeing you all.”
